Camphor Essential Oil, also known as "True Camphor" or "Japanese Camphor", is derived from the Camphor tree. After distillation, four different grades of Camphor is produced. They are: White, Brown, Yellow and Blue. Only the White grade is usable in aromatherapy and for medicinal purposes because the others have a high level of Safrole, which is toxic at high levels. For centuries, Camphor has been used for medicinal purposes in China, India and Japan. Originating from the forests of Japan and Taiwan, the Camphor tree was introduced to Florida in the late 1800s and as grown in popularity since then. Camphor has a strong aroma that is fresh, piercing, woody and menthol-like. It is a clear, colorless liquid.
